What Happens During Your First Appointment
GETTING TO KNOW YOU AND YOUR SMILE
Your first visit with us lasts approximately 1.5 hours. During this time, we take a thorough look at your current oral health, discuss your goals, and begin building a long-term care plan designed around you.
Here’s what’s typically included in a new patient appointment:
Prophylaxis (Professional Dental Cleaning)
We usually complete a professional cleaning at your first visit. This includes removing plaque and tartar buildup to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Our hygienists take their time to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the process.
Periodontal Readings
To fully assess your gum health, we perform gentle periodontal measurements at your first visit. We check the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums. This helps us understand your risk for gum disease and formulate recommendations for your treatment, if necessary.
Full-Mouth X-Rays
We take a full series of X-rays at your first visit, including bitewings, to give us a clear view of your current oral health. This baseline helps us track any changes over time and accurately plan your care.
We use digital X-ray technology that offers several benefits:
- Reduced radiation exposure
- Faster results—no waiting for images
- Clearer, more detailed images
- A wider view with just a small device held between your teeth
Digital X-rays allow us to identify issues that may not be visible to the naked eye, giving us a more complete picture of your oral health.
After Your Oral Evaluation
We’ll present our findings clearly and explain what they mean for your overall oral health. If treatment is needed, we’ll talk through your options.
Health & Lifestyle Conversation
Because your oral health is connected to your overall wellness, we’ll talk briefly about your general health, medications, habits, and goals. This helps us tailor your treatment and address any concerns you may have.
Personalized Treatment Plan
If follow-up care is needed, we’ll recommend a treatment plan that reflects your goals, schedule, and preferences. We’re here to answer any questions and support you in making confident decisions about your care.
Financial Consultation
Before you leave, we’ll review your insurance benefits (if applicable) and discuss any out-of-pocket costs associated with recommended treatments. We’ll also talk about available payment options so you know exactly what to expect.
Caring for Patients of All Ages
YES—EVEN THE LITTLE ONES
Our team welcomes patients as young as infants for first visits. These early visits are quick, calm, and all about creating positive associations. We’ll check that everything looks healthy and give you tips for caring for your child’s smile at home.
Plan Ahead With Digital Forms
MAKING YOUR VISIT EVEN SMOOTHER
Before your visit, we’ll text you a link to complete your new patient forms online. Prefer to fill them out in the office? That’s fine too. We can have a tablet ready for you when you arrive.
